CarMax Cuts 145 Corporate Jobs

CarMax has cut about 145 corporate positions, or roughly 4% of its corporate workforce, in its latest round of restructuring.

The used-car retailer notified affected employees Friday. About 60 of the cuts were in the Richmond, Va., area, with additional positions eliminated at corporate offices in Dallas and Atlanta and at Edmunds, CarMax's automotive research business.

CarMax said the reductions are intended to support its strategic priorities and create a leaner corporate workforce. The company said it is providing severance and outplacement support and has about 70 open corporate positions that affected employees can apply for.

The cuts come after CarMax eliminated about 230 positions in January and roughly 350 jobs in October 2025. The company has been working to reduce costs while focusing on unit sales, digital capabilities and operational efficiency.

CarMax's second-quarter fiscal 2027 results are scheduled for Sept. 29.
