Black Book Appoints New Exec

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga– Black Book announced the appointment of Scott Fontaine as vice president, head of residual strategy. In this newly created executive leadership role, Fontaine will report to Black Book President Jared Kalfus and lead the company’s residual value modeling and predictive valuation strategy across the U.S. and Canada.

“Scott brings an exceptional combination of residual forecasting expertise, quantitative rigor and automotive finance leadership,” said Jared Kalfus, president of Black Book. “His experience across valuations, remarketing, credit and risk makes him uniquely qualified to lead this critical area of our business.  As the market becomes increasingly complex, Scott will help ensure Black Book continues to deliver residual intelligence that is accurate, explainable, and actionable. That gives lenders, captives, dealers and remarketers the confidence to price risk, protect portfolio value and make better decisions in volatile markets, while strengthening the entire automotive finance industry.”

Fontaine brings more than 25 years of experience spanning automotive finance, residual setting, vehicle valuations, remarketing, credit risk and quantitative modeling. Most recently, he served as managing partner of C1 Advisory.

During his nine years at Ally, Fontaine held several leadership positions. Earlier in his career, he held quantitative modeling leadership roles at GE and RVI Group and worked in automotive consulting and market analysis.

As head of residual strategy, Fontaine will guide the strategy, modeling direction and performance of Black Book’s residual forecasts, with a focus on accuracy, stability, explainability and customer trust. He will work across data science, product, data and market intelligence, sales and marketing to translate Black Book’s modeling capabilities into customer-facing solutions, product innovation and new growth opportunities. Fontaine will also serve as a key external voice for Black Book on residual risk, market volatility and portfolio performance.

“Black Book has earned the market’s trust by combining deep automotive expertise with disciplined data and analytics,” said Fontaine. “I am excited to join the executive leadership team and build on that foundation. This is an opportunity to strengthen how we forecast and communicate residual risk, help customers make more confident portfolio decisions and expand the value Black Book delivers across the automotive finance ecosystem.”

Fontaine holds a bachelor’s in economics and mathematics from Suffolk University and pursued doctoral studies in economics at Boston College.
