EBay Bans the Sale of Airbags

EBay Bans the Sale of Airbags

Critical Shifts:

  • Total Ban on Primary Airbag Components: Effective September 24, 2026, eBay is completely prohibiting all sellers from listing standalone airbags, airbag inflators, and steering wheel airbag covers due to safety risk evaluations.

  • Restricted Sales for Secondary Parts: Non-hazardous secondary components (such as control units, crash sensors, and diagnostic modules) remain permitted internationally, but US sales are restricted strictly to pre-approved sellers.

  • Mandatory Compliance Timeline: Sellers must remove affected listings by September 24, 2026; eBay will automatically delete remaining non-compliant listings without penalty, though relisting banned items may lead to account restrictions.

Effective September 24, 2026, airbags and airbag inflators are not permitted to be listed or sold on eBay by any seller. This policy applies across the entire airbag category. This decision was made following a comprehensive review of the risks these products may pose to eBay users.

According to eBay’s site, the following standalone components are no longer allowed:

  • Airbags
  • Airbag inflators (gas generators)
  • Steering wheel airbag covers

Outside the United States, all sellers may continue to list permitted airbag-related parts that do not contain an airbag or inflator (listed below). In the United States, the sale of these permitted parts is restricted to sellers who are currently pre-approved.

  • Airbag control unit
  • Airbag crash sensor (impact sensor)
  • Diagnostic module
  • Passenger sensor

EBay recommends that sellers review their active, scheduled and draft listings in the affected categories and remove any listings mentioned above by Sept. 24, 2026.

Sellers will have 30 days to comply with this new policy, according to eBay. If these listings are not removed by Sept. 24, 2026, eBay will remove them on your behalf. Any listings you remove yourself, or that eBay removes for you as part of this update, will not negatively affect your account’s policy compliance history. Relisting these items may result in selling restrictions.

Sellers can review eBay’s Vehicle Related Policy on eBay Help or contact the company if you have questions.
