After 51 Years, Illinois Ford Dealer Ends Franchise

Roland Rich Automotive Inc., a longtime Ford dealership in Delavan, Illinois, has ended its Ford franchise after more than 51 years, citing rising operating costs and difficulty finding qualified employees.

Owner Roland Rich plans to continue operating the business as a pre-owned vehicle dealership while retaining parts and general repair services, according to a report by The Delavan Dispatch.

Without its Ford franchise, the Delavan dealership can no longer perform Ford warranty repairs or administer Ford recall programs. Rich said he hopes to keep the service department operating as long as customer demand and staffing allow.

The business recently added technician Ed Niederhauser, who brings more than 25 years of automotive service experience.

Rich, who is over 80, also hopes to find an experienced automotive salesperson interested in taking over the business. He cited changing local demographics as another challenge, saying fewer younger residents are returning to the area and contributing to the customer base.

Although new Ford sales have ended, Rich said he wants to keep serving the Delavan community rather than close the business entirely.
