Hyundai Recalls Nearly 95,000 Genesis Sedans Over Fire Risk

Hyundai is recalling 94,622 Genesis sedans in the U.S. after reports that front power-seat controls can malfunction and cause the motors to overheat, creating a fire risk even when a vehicle is parked.

The recall covers 2017–2020 Genesis G80 sedans and 2015–2016 Hyundai Genesis models. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the front seat slider or height-adjustment switch can become damaged or dislodged, allowing the motor to continue running and potentially overheat.

Hyundai has identified two alleged fires associated with the problem. No related crashes or injuries have been reported, according to published recall reporting.

A repair remedy is still being developed. In the meantime, owners are being advised to park affected vehicles outdoors, away from buildings and other vehicles. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by December 7, 2026.
