Jack Demmer Automotive Group is launching an autonomous drone delivery program designed to move automotive parts between dealerships and suppliers faster in metro Detroit.
The program, developed with drone technology companies Airspace Link and blueflite and supported by Centrepolis Accelerator, will deliver high-demand parts within a 12-mile radius of Jack Demmer Ford dealerships in Southeast Michigan. The project received a $740,000 grant through Michigan’s Advanced Air Mobility Activation Fund. Following pilot flights, the program is moving into live commercial operations along the Ann Arbor–Detroit drone corridor.
For dealerships, the goal is straightforward: reduce the time it takes to get parts where they are needed. Traffic congestion and parts-delivery delays can keep vehicles in the shop longer, adding costs for dealers and frustrating customers.
“Drone delivery of automotive parts is a natural extension of that commitment,” said Jack Demmer Ford Parts Manager Mark Hatfield. “This groundbreaking program allows us to move critical parts faster than ever before, helping reduce repair delays, improve efficiency, and get our customers back on the road sooner.”
Airspace Link’s AirHub system will manage airspace coordination, operational oversight and safety compliance, while blueflite’s autonomous tiltrotor drones will handle the deliveries. The metro Detroit project is also intended to generate data that could help shape regulations and demonstrate how drone logistics could eventually be scaled across the automotive industry.
