Thieves Use BMW to Smash Through Long Island Nissan Dealership

Thieves used one vehicle to smash through the showroom entrance of a Long Island dealership early Thursday morning before driving away in another vehicle. Suffolk County police say the break-in occurred around 1:30 a.m. Sept. 3 at Nissan 112 Certified in Medford, N.Y. The suspects reportedly gained access to a set of keys for a 2023 BMW X5 and then used the BMW as a battering ram.

The BMW was driven into a 2022 Nissan Versa parked outside the showroom. The impact pushed the Versa into the building, shattering the front window and creating an opening into the showroom, according to police.

The placement of the Versa was not accidental. According to reporting by Newsday, dealership employees had parked the vehicle in front of the showroom after the store was previously burglarized in 2020. The tactic, however, did not stop Thursday morning’s break-in.

Once inside, the suspects abandoned the damaged BMW and took a 2023 Dodge Charger from the showroom, police said. They then fled the dealership.

By Thursday afternoon, the dealership had already replaced the damaged showroom windows and cleared away most of the broken glass and debris, according to local reporting.

No arrests have been reported. Suffolk County police are asking anyone with information about the break-in to contact Crime Stoppers.
