Stellantis N.V. has announced a sweeping global safety campaign impacting nearly one million late-model trucks, SUVs, and minivans due to a critical infotainment software error.
The recall highlights the growing role of digital infrastructure in modern vehicles, altering how manufacturers address widespread safety non-compliance.
The Scope of the Recall
The campaign encompasses 954,885 vehicles worldwide from the 2026 and 2027 model years. The geographic impact heavily targets North America:
- United States: 848,511 vehicles
- Canada: 82,869 vehicles
- Mexico: 7,969 vehicles
- International Markets: 15,536 vehicles [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
The affected inventory spans a wide range of popular, high-volume consumer and commercial models across Stellantis’ premier American brands:
- Jeep (2026 models): Wrangler, Cherokee, Compass, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Grand Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer L.
- Ram (2026 models): Ram 1500, Ram 2500, ProMaster, and ProMaster EV commercial vans.
- Chrysler (2026–2027 models): Pacifica, Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid, Grand Caravan, and Voyager.
- Dodge (2026–2027 models): Dodge Charger.
The Problem: Rearview Screen Glitch
The recall stems from a internal software bug within the center radio display. When a driver shifts into reverse, the error can prevent the rearview camera feed from populating, leaving the screen completely blank.
Because a non-functioning camera violates federal motor vehicle safety regulations and severely impairs rear visibility, the glitch increases the risk of backover accidents. Stellantis has confirmed they are currently unaware of any injuries or crashes related to the software bug.
The Solution: An Over-The-Air (OTA) Fix
Because the defect is entirely digital rather than mechanical, Stellantis will resolve the issue through an Over-The-Air (OTA) software update sent directly to the vehicles.
Owners will not need to visit a dealership service bay for a physical component swap. Instead, a prompt will automatically appear on the vehicle’s central touchscreen guiding the user through the wireless installation patch.
Official notification letters detailing the timeline and instructions will be mailed out to registered owners starting in September 2026. Drivers looking to verify their vehicle's status early can input their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) directly into the Official Mopar Recall Portal.
